Letter, 15 Sept. 1880 re the Cash-Shannon duel and pocket diary, 1874-1910, re agricultural operations at Jeter's farm. Letter, 15 Sept. 1880 (Columbia, S.C.), to W.W. Sellers (Marion, S.C.), from South Carolina governor Tho[ma]s B. Jeter to Fourth Circuit Solicitor W.W. Sellers, referencing the duel that occurred near Bishopville, S.C., in 1880 between E.B.C. Cash (1823-1888) and William M. Shannon (1822-1880). Jeter states that he was in receipt of Sellers' communication of 13 Sept. and was requiring Attorney General Youmans "to attend at Darlington C[ourt] H[ouse] on the 1st Monday in Oct. next, and to 'appear for the State' in the matter of the Cash Shannon dueling cases." Pocket diary, printed for use during 1874, but containing entries dating to Reconstruction and later years (dated 1874-1880, 1888, and 1895-1910), recorded by Jeter (and, after his death, by one of his survivors), re Jeter's management of Homestead Farm in Union County, S.C., farm expenses, cultivation of cotton, corn, and other crops, including entry, 30 June 1876, that he had "replanted with Ku Klux corn."

Thomas Bothwell Jeter served three months (Sept.-Nov. 1880) as governor of South Carolina following the resignation of Gov.
